My oldest son likes to play chess. This game did not hold his attention for long and I don't think he'll come back to it. After 30 minutes of listening to a story line that wasn't very interesting and going through the lesson attempting to describe movement of the king, he had enough.

If you're looking for something that will help kids improve their chess game, this isn't it. It *might* be helpful in teaching how to play chess, I cannot comment on that.

Aside from the educational aspect (or lack of it), I was disappointed in the game itself for a few reasons:

1. The game is basically a flash based game. The CD is constantly being read for animation/sound content and there is no installation option to install all of the content on the hard drive to speed things up.
2. The UI is terrible. No effort was made to provide a user interface that would be at all familiar. There are icons that are probably described in the manual, but I just had to click on them to find out what they would do. Even when doing so, everything was graphical so, for example, the list of story chapters were just pictures of locations in the cartoon environment. These are meaningless unless you've played the game and, even then, they don't seem to relate much to chess.
3. There doesn't seem to be a way to skip ahead. For my son, who knows how to move the pieces, it would be nice if he could move forward, but the game doesn't seem to allow that.

In all honesty, I didn't give this game much of a chance, but it was immediately clear that this wasn't for us.
